RETREAT YOURSELF

 Digital detox - retreat yourself

TRANQUILITY

Winter on Ibiza. Time for mental space.

The days are short but sweet. The island is quiet, wild and pure. As I'm writing this my fire is burning and I'm pleasantly hot in my cozy little finca home.

As much as I love being busy in the summer, meeting and teaching the most interesting characters, the winter calls for hibernation. My soul is longing for silence, yet old habits remain. I still find myself checking Facebook, posting on Instagram, doing email, placing Amazon orders etc. etc.

What's all that nonsense fidgeting about? It's the monkey mind that finds stillness utterly uncomfortable, yet on a deeper level all we are craving is peace.

It's time to put that monkey/monster mind into its place and get my creative, intuitive juices flowing again.

It's time for a digital detox.

There is one quote that entrepreneur Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, has laminated in her wallet, posted on her desk, and has hanging next to her bed.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills. There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
— Marcus Aurelius

Why that quote? She says (see full interview here):

“It perfectly illustrates the current moment. Right now that first retreat he’s talking about is mostly digital. That’s how we get away from ourselves, by retreating into technology and social media. But the only way to find peace and thrive is to take breaks from the world and make time to regularly renew ourselves by reconnecting with ourselves.”

You don’t have to print it out and hang it up (although I did) but you should give yourself the gift of the quote's wisdom.

Retreat into yourself.
Renew yourself.
